One suicide and one near-suicide occur in this book. One woman, who shuns books
but loves TV and driving fast in her car, anesthetizes herself,; "We get these
cases nine or ten a night," says the medical technician. Another woman, who
cherishes her books, sets herself on fire with them; "These fanatics always try
suicide," says the fire captain. Why would two people who seem to be so
different from each other try to take their own lives? Why does suicide happen
so frequently in Montag's society?"
The first mentioned is Mildred, Montag's Wife. She has no knowledge and no meaningful relationshipsThis makes her unhappy and depressed. It would seem that there are many people who feel as Mildred does based on what the guys say that come to pump her stomach. Mildred does not feel bad that she put Montag through the ordeal of finding her. She uses tv as a replacement for the relationships that she does not have. the second women is the lady that montag and his crew burned on the fire call. this lady uses her books as subitutes for the relationships. she is equaly as unhappy as mildred because she cant live the life she wants. she is willing to die for her cause and mildred
