- What do the firemen “do” for a job? According to pages 3-4, what does Montag think of his job?
- During his conversation, Montag tells Clarisse that "You never wash it off completely" referring to the kerosene. What could this mean symbolically?
It could mean that when you burn the books or when they burned the old lady that you will never able to forget what you did. the kerosene might represent the guilt he feels for the destrustion that he is responciable for. As well as the knowledge that he was reponsiable for taking someones life.
Who is Mildred's "family"? How does she
spend her days? How does she fall asleep
at night?
mildreds family are the many charaters on the three wall in her parlor. She spends her days in the parlor interacting with the make beleive charaters of various shows. she memorizes lines in a script so she can interject herself into the drama. she can hear them but they can not hear her. like all of ther relationships it is one sided. one might say that she is addicted to watching the parlor walls. at night she blocks out thoughts by going to sleep with a seashell ear peice in her ear. mildred is never alone with her thoughts. we know mildred doesnt like her thought because she overdoses either accidently or on purpose. the reader dosent know for sure but can only guess.either way mildred takes lots of pills so she doesnt have hear her thoughts.
